Dear Parents and Carers,
It’s been a very busy time here at school and we are only at the end of Week 2.
Our Federal Election Day – Sausage Sizzle & More!
Last Saturday, our school was buzzing with activity as we welcomed voters and hosted a fantastic Democracy Sausage Sizzle alongside the federal election. It was a wonderful day of community connection, great food, and generous support for our school.
Thanks to the efforts of our School Community Council (SCC) and many amazing volunteers, we served up: Gourmet sausage sandwiches; Bacon and egg rolls; Barista-made coffee and a mouth-watering selection of slices, lovingly baked by the talented Victoria Town.
Even those who had already voted earlier in the week dropped by to grab a sausage sandwich or coffee and show their support. It was a great reminder of what a strong and generous community we have.
Our hard-working Fete Committee also got an early start on fundraising, selling “Pick a Prize” tickets throughout the day—200 tickets sold, thanks to the efforts of Erin Maher, Elizabeth Wilson, and Rachael Flanagan!
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to:
Wes Dunne, for organising and coordinating the entire event so smoothly;
Victoria Town, for her endless hours of baking and preparation.
The wonderful team who cooked, served, and supported: Daniel and Vanessa McInerney, Nelly Kurniati, Amy Clarke, Kim Heidke, Susan Chant, Geoff Ryan, Mel Gardiner, Felicity Mullins, Amber Skurr, Sarah Lewis, Sam Wilson, Sarah Lewis, Amie Lloyd, Kylie and Anthony Cutting, Jacinta Housler, Jenny Statton, Shannon and Carl Ord, Aleks Kalinowski, Matt Adcock, Ian Jamieson and Edwina Wundersitz (a former parent who still shows up with heart and energy!). I had a great day with the crew as well. We couldn’t have done it without you all!

Mother’s Day Breakfast
This morning, we celebrated our amazing mums with a delightful Mother’s Day breakfast - and what a fantastic event it was! With a bit of a French-inspired twist, our families enjoyed delicious ham and cheese croissants alongside a selection of sweet pastries, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
A huge thank you to the incredible team of parents who made this event possible. To the mums and dads who prepared the food yesterday afternoon - your hard work made all the difference! A special shout-out to Victoria, who was here at 6am this morning to get everything heated and ready to serve.
We also want to thank the dads who volunteered to help set up, serve, make coffees, and pack up afterward. Your generosity and teamwork ensured that everything ran smoothly and made the morning special.
It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces, warm conversations, and a genuine sense of community. We hope all our mums felt the appreciation they deserve! Thank you to everyone who joined us - it was a morning to remember.
Athletics Carnival
Our Athletics Carnival was a fantastic celebration of effort, enthusiasm, and community spirit. From sprint races to long jumps, our students gave it their all, supported by cheers from classmates, staff, and families.
A huge thank you to Laura Vandenbroucke for her excellent organisation - the day ran so smoothly thanks to her planning and leadership.
We’re also incredibly grateful to our wonderful parent helpers: Anna Lowe, Amie and Anthony Lloyd, Lorena Soberaniz, Vincent McInerney, Kelly O’Halloran, Jessica Robertson, Talia Wagner, Jacinta Bryce, Nicole Dwyer Johns, Tanya Kane, Hayley and Michael Lorenzato, Roslyn McInerney, and Jye Beckett - your time and support made a big difference.
To all the families who came along to cheer and encourage - thank you for helping make the day such a success!
Enrolment Time for 2026
It’s that important time of year - enrolment time for 2026! If you have a child in Year 6 and are planning to enrol them in one of our Catholic Systemic High Schools, applications must be submitted by the end of May. These schools receive over 200 more applications than they can accommodate, so please ensure you meet the cut-off date to secure a place.
May is also enrolment month for St Thomas the Apostle. If you have a child in preschool, now is the time to enrol them for 2026. And if you know anyone considering joining our wonderful school community, be sure to let them know!
Open Day
We’re excited to welcome new families to St Thomas the Apostle, and we invite everyone to our Open Day on Wednesday 14 May from 9:00am to 5:00pm. We’ll be conducting tours throughout the day, giving families the chance to see our school in action.
We look forward to meeting prospective students and families so be sure to spread the word about coming to see what a great school we have here at St Thomas the Apostle school.
Pies & Footy Night – Rugby League ‘State of Origin’
We’re back for our fifth year of Pies & Footy Night - and it just keeps getting bigger! This much-loved event is for the dads, grandfathers, uncles, and other important men in our children’s lives, and it’s a great way to meet others in our school community while enjoying a classic Aussie night out.
Join us on Wednesday 28 May from 6:30pm at school as we gear up to watch the first game of the footy season, kicking off at 8:05pm. There’ll be table tennis action before the match and at half-time, plus plenty of laughs and friendly rivalry.
This year, Cameron Maher will be leading the cheer squad for the Blues, while Giovanni Sommariva rallies support for the Mighty Maroons. Who will win? Come along and help your side bring the noise!
We’ll have delicious hot, gourmet pies, fresh out of the oven (thanks to our resident chef Victoria!), and you’re welcome to BYO drinks. Whether it’s your first time or your fifth, it’s a fantastic way to unwind and connect with other school families.
You can register your attendance by clicking here, so we can make sure there are plenty of pies for everyone.
Please note: as it's a school night and the game will run until about 10pm, this is a strictly adults-only event.
Winter School Uniform
The transition period for summer to winter uniform finishes today. As of next week all students are expected to be in the full winter uniform (see the website for details). Please note that this means long pants and not shorts. The exception is on their sports days, when they are welcome to wear shorts under their track pants, in case they get hot during energetic sporting activities. I trust that we will have your support in ensuring that your children are adhering to our school uniform policy.
Keeping Our School Grounds Phone-Free
At our primary school, we strive to create a positive and engaging learning environment where students can focus on their education and interact meaningfully with their peers. To support this, we have clear guidelines regarding mobile phone use.
Students are permitted to use their phones before school, before entering the school grounds, to notify parents of their arrival. Similarly, in the afternoon, after leaving the school grounds, they may use their phones if they need to contact parents. However, throughout the school day, including recess and lunch breaks, phones should not be used or visible on school grounds.
If parents need to get a message to their child during school hours, they should contact the front office, where Naomi or Lynette will ensure the message is delivered in the note bag.
Additionally, we remind students that taking photos is strictly prohibited and goes against the school's ICT agreement, which all students have signed. This policy helps protect the privacy and safety of everyone in our school community.
We appreciate the support of our students and families in following these guidelines, ensuring that our school remains a focused and respectful learning environment for all.
And finally, a prayer for our special mums….
Loving God,
Today, we thank you for the wonderful mothers in our lives - for their care, kindness, and the love they share with us every day. Bless them with strength when they are tired, peace when they need rest, and joy in the little moments that make life special.
At St Thomas the Apostle School, we are grateful for the mums who support us, who encourage, guide, and cheer us on through life’s ups and downs. Help us to show them love, not just on Mother’s Day, but always - with our words, our actions, and our prayers.
We also remember the mums who are no longer with us. May their love and wisdom stay in our hearts, and may we always feel their presence in the special moments of life.
Thank You, God, for the gift of mothers. We ask this through Jesus Christ, Your Son.
Amen.
Have a wonderful day on Sunday, whether you are a mum, celebrating your mum or remembering your mum.
Yours in partnership,
RE Term 2 - "Jubilee Year - Pilgrims of Hope"
Eastertide
Our school community celebrated Easter on the first day back of this term with a liturgy lead by Year 2. We remember the love, joy and peace that is gifted to us through the Easter story. The liturgical Eastertide Season continues until Pentecost.
Sacramental Program
The First Eucharist sacramental program has begun. There will be a retreat day for all Year 4 students and the students participating in the preparation for First Eucharist. This will be held on Friday 30 May. Information will be sent out to all participating families via compass.
Information for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and Confirmation will be sent out in the next week.
A New Pope
The Catholic Church has elected Cardinal Robert Francis Provost from the USA as the 267th Pope. He has chosen the name Pope Leo XIV and his first words to the public were “peace be with all of you.” We keep our new Pope and the Church in our prayers through this time of change.
Term 2 Liturgies and Class Masses
All families are most welcome to join us for liturgies and masses held in the Church. Most classes are rostered on to attend mass with the parish during this term. Throughout the year each class will lead us in community prayer, where the whole school attends.
